Assoc. Prof. Emel Canbay earned her MD from Sivas Cumhuriyet University in 1988, and her PhD in Molecular Oncology from King's College School of Medicine in 1996. She completed her General Surgery specialization in Ankara, and trained in Breast and GI Surgery at Istanbul University. She passed the Ministry of Health's chiefship exam and is now deputy chief in the General Surgery Clinic at Kocaeli-Derince Hospital. She trained in peritoneal surgery and intraperitoneal chemotherapy under Yutaka Yonemura.
Born in Kütahya in 1969, he graduated from Gülhane Military Medical Academy in 1993 and became an internal medicine specialist in 2000. He has conducted scientific studies on stem cell transplantation and end-of-life care for cancer patients, and has over 90 publications and presentations. He is a member of several medical associations and speaks German and English fluently. He also teaches classical guitar, conducts research on the effects of music on human health, and has translated works from German and English into Turkish. He is married with two children and currently works in medical oncology at Istanbul Okan University Hospital.
