Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yetik's journey in the field of ophthalmology is marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence and a commitment to advancing eye care. Born in Bakirkoy, Istanbul, he embarked on his academic journey at Akasya College for his middle school education. His passion for medicine led him to Istanbul University's Istanbul Faculty of Medicine (Çapa), where he completed his six-year medical education between 1990 and 1996.
Immediately after graduating in 1996, Prof. Yetik demonstrated his exceptional aptitude by achieving the highest score in the Medical Speciality Exam. This accomplishment granted him the opportunity to pursue specialized training at the esteemed Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Department of Ophthalmology at Istanbul University.
After completing his specialty education in 2000, Prof. Yetik dedicated himself to serving as an ophthalmology specialist at the same clinic until 2006. During this period, he spearheaded the establishment of the Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) polyclinic, revolutionizing the diagnosis, follow-up, and treatment of this condition within the department.
A pivotal moment in his career came in April 2000, when Prof. Yetik administered the first laser treatment for ROP at the Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Department of Ophthalmology. This groundbreaking achievement underscored his dedication to advancing retinal care.
In 2007, Prof. Yetik was appointed as an Associate Professor at Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Department of Ophthalmology. Concurrently, he served as a consultant M.D. of vitreoretinal surgery at prestigious institutions such as Yeditepe University Eye Hospital, Memorial Hospital, and Goztepe Education and Research Hospital.
From May to August 2007, he established the ROP polyclinic at Goztepe Education and Research Hospital, where he mentored colleagues and contributed to the advancement of ROP care.
Despite facing challenges such as the "full-day law," which temporarily interrupted his academic tenure from 2012 to 2014, Prof. Yetik's dedication remained unwavering. He returned to academia in 2015 and earned the distinguished title of Professor.
During his hiatus, Prof. Yetik served as a full-time vitreoretinal surgery consultant M.D. at Yedikule Surp Pirgic Armenian Hospital and engaged in collaborative research at the San Raffaele Institute in Milan, Italy, under the mentorship of Prof. Francesco Bandello.
Today, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yetik continues to inspire and lead in the field of ophthalmology as a distinguished professor at Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Department of Ophthalmology, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of eye care.
