MD. Prof. Dr. Furkan Karabekmez

Born in Malatya in 1975, I attained my medical degree from Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1999. Following this, I pursued specialized training in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery at Selçuk University, Meram Medical Faculty, completing it in 2009. Subsequently, I embarked on a 15-month tenure as a "Research Fellow" in the Department of Plastic Surgery at Mayo Clinic, USA, and continued my collaboration with Mayo Clinic as a "Research Collaborator".

After fulfilling mandatory service at Konya Training and Research Hospital and Ağrı State Hospitals from 2010 to 2012, I assumed the role of Assistant Professor at Abant İzzet Baysal University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery in 2012. During this period, I also engaged as a visiting fellow in Münster, Germany. I received specialization in Facial and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Ministry of Health. In 2014, I attained the title of associate professor and undertook responsibilities as an education and training officer at Keçiören training and research hospital. From 2019 to 2021, I served as a "Consultant Plastic Surgeon" in the Plastic Surgery Department of Aldar Hospital in Saudi Arabia. Since 2021, I have been based in Ankara, working in our clinic.

In the realm of academia, I've authored a total of 58 publications, 39 of which are on an international scale. Additionally, I presented papers at 51 international meetings, contributed poster presentations to 50 national meetings, and participated as an invited speaker-panelist in 7 scientific gatherings. I also translated sections for various book projects and supervised 4 specialized student theses. Serving as the Scientific Secretary at the "Plastic Surgery Special Joint Meeting Co-Sponsored by Mayo Clinic" Congress, an event we jointly organized with Mayo Clinic, was a notable professional milestone. I received incentives from Tübitak and University BAP (Scientific Research Projects) a total of 4 times for various studies. I successfully completed both the oral and written exams for the European Plastic Surgery Board in English, earning the FEBOPRAS title, which is recognized across Europe. Later, I obtained the Turkish Plastic Surgery Competency Certificate, equivalent to this examination in Turkey. Currently, I'm an active member of the Frontiers of Surgery Reviewer Board and the Pediatric Urology Case Report Editorial Board.

In addition to my professional pursuits, I possess advanced proficiency in the English language. I am happily married and the proud father of three children.
