Dr. Elif Betul Turkoglu, a distinguished 2005 university graduate, embarked on her illustrious career in ophthalmology. After commencing her specialization at Ankara Hospital's Ophthalmology Clinic, she furthered her expertise through a TUS exam degree. In 2010, she dedicated her skills to oculoplasty, specializing in eye aesthetics, at Sakarya University Training and Research Hospital during her mandatory service.
Following this, Dr. Turkoglu ascended to the role of Assistant Professor at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine, Ophthalmology Clinic. Delving into the intricate field of ocular oncology, she pursued senior residency at Wills Eye Institute's Ocular Oncology unit in the USA, under the guidance of Dr. Carol Shields, where she successfully concluded a TUBITAK project on retinoblastoma treatment.
Achieving the title of Associate Professor in 2017 and Professor in November 2022, Dr. Turkoglu focuses on adult and pediatric ocular oncology, oculoplasty, and cataract surgery. Her extensive research portfolio comprises over 150 scientific studies and numerous papers published in international and national journals.
As a distinguished member of various ophthalmology societies, including the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), Turkish Ophthalmology Society (TOD), and American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), Dr. Turkoglu plays an active role in advancing her field. Serving as a training officer in the TOD Ocular Infections Unit's board of directors and contributing to the TOD Ocular Oncology Unit, she exemplifies commitment to professional development.
Dr. Turkoglu's areas of interest span a broad spectrum, including trifocal lens surgeries, eyelid aesthetics, brow lift surgery, mid-face lifting, non-surgical eyelid aesthetics with lasers, Botox-filler-fat transfer applications, and various surgical procedures addressing eyelid function and deformities. Her dedication extends to treating eye conditions like dry eye, performing surgeries for removable prosthetic eyes, intraocular and extraocular cancers, orbital tumor surgeries, keratoplasty, and refractive laser surgeries.
In 2019, Dr. Turkoglu observed groundbreaking intra-arterial chemotherapy for retinoblastoma at the National Cancer Center, Tokyo, showcasing her commitment to staying at the forefront of innovative treatments in her field.
