Dr. Serdar Özler is an esteemed Associate Professor of Ophthalmology with a rich educational background and extensive experience in the field. He completed his residency in the Department of Ophthalmology at the School of Medicine, Ege University, Izmir, Turkey, from 1986 to 1992. Dr. Özler furthered his expertise through fellowship programs in vitreoretinal surgery and ocular oncology at the Doheny Eye Institute and the Department of Ophthalmology, and Kenneth-Norris Jr. Cancer Institute at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, from June 1990 to June 1991. Additionally, he pursued a fellowship in ophthalmic laser surgery at the Beckman Laser Institute and Medical Clinic, and the Department of Surgery at the University of California Irvine, from June 1989 to June 1990.
Dr. Özler's commitment to excellence is evident in his educational journey, which began at Ege University School of Medicine, where he obtained his medical degree in 1984. He completed his internship at the same institution from 1984 to 1985. Prior to that, he attended Science Lycee in Ankara, Turkey, for his senior high school education from 1976 to 1979, and Bornova Anadolu Lycee in Bornova, Izmir, Turkey, for junior high school from 1973 to 1976.
In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Özler has a distinguished career in ophthalmology. He has been the Chief Resident of Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology, Ege University Medical School, Bornova, Izmir, Turkey, from 1992 to 1994. Dr. Özler is also a scientific reviewer for the Journal of the American Academy of Ophthalmology since 1991.
Dr. Özler has contributed significantly to the field of ophthalmology through his clinical work and research. He has received several awards and grants, including the Best Research Award at the Brazil Congress of Ophthalmology in September 1991 and the Best Scientist Award at TOYP Turkey in 1998. He was also granted the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Humanitarian Work by the International Lions Society, Izmir, in 2002.
Dr. Özler is a member of the Turkish Ophthalmological Society and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer, Ophthalmic Oncology Group.
