Assoc. Prof. Özlem Arıcan Özluk is a distinguished cardiologist with an exceptional academic and professional background. Graduating with outstanding success from Ankara Hacettepe Faculty of Medicine in 2001, she embarked on a journey marked by excellence and dedication to advancing cardiovascular care. Her passion for research led her to complete an elective internship at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, University of Washington, in 2000, under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Carlos Perez, a renowned figure in radiation oncology.
In 2001, Assoc. Prof. Özlem Arıcan Özluk secured a position in the Department of Cardiology at Dokuz Eylül University, where she began her specialization training. During this time, she worked as a research assistant under Prof. Dr. George Sutherland at London St George’s Hospital, focusing on strain echocardiography and advanced echocardiographic training. This experience was pivotal in shaping her career, leading her to specialize in advanced echocardiography, including transesophageal echocardiography and valve diseases.
Assoc. Prof. Özlem Arıcan Özluk's commitment to advancing cardiovascular care is further demonstrated through her involvement in multicenter international studies such as ASSENT IV, ACTIVE-A, and ACTIVE-I, where she served as an assistant researcher. In 2006, she successfully passed the cardiology specialty exam and began her government duty as a cardiology consultant at Elazig Training and Research Hospital. During her tenure there, she played a key role in establishing the invasive unit and performed the first coronary angiography in the catheter unit. Her contributions to the field have been recognized by the Turkish Society of Cardiology, which selected her oral presentation as one of the best papers at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) cardiology congress in 2006.
