MD. Mustafa Ünal

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ünal is a distinguished leader in the field of ophthalmology, with a wealth of experience in various prestigious roles. He has served as the director of the eye bank, assistant chief physician, and chief physician at Akdeniz University Hospital, demonstrating his exceptional leadership and management skills. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Ünal has been actively involved in hospital institutions, serving on the purchase and sale commission, as well as the postgraduate education commission, further showcasing his commitment to enhancing healthcare services.

His contributions to ophthalmology extend beyond his clinical work, with over 70 articles published in Turkish and international medical journals. Furthermore, he has presented at more than 100 academic conferences, highlighting his dedication to advancing the field through research and education.

Prof. Dr. Ünal's professional expertise lies in the treatment of keratoconus and other corneal diseases, corneal transplantation, and cataract surgery using phacoemulsification. He is also highly skilled in managing dry eye syndrome and ocular surface diseases, providing comprehensive care to his patients.

• Selected as the rector of Akdeniz University in 2016, holding this position until 2020.

• Graduated from the English-speaking Medical Faculty of Istanbul Cerrahpasa University in 1998.
• Completed specialization in Ophthalmology at the Department of Eye Diseases at Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa, and received the title of Ophthalmologist in 2002.
