Dr. Umut R. Gunduz

Embarking on a challenging journey at Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty, my life commenced in 2005 at Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital. Through my experiences as a General Surgery Assistant, I achieved the status of General Surgery Specialist in 2010.

Throughout my tenure in general surgery residency, I undertook numerous surgeries, gradually honing my skills in the field. It was during this time that my passion for laparoscopic surgery took root.

Over the course of a decade at Antalya Training and Research Hospital, my focus primarily revolved around conducting surgeries related to cancer and obesity. My preference leaned towards performing laparoscopic procedures, while also actively participating in domestic and international training related to bariatric surgery, robotic surgery, and advanced endoscopic techniques.

Fuelled by my technological interests, my enthusiasm for robotic surgery, laparoscopic procedures, and advanced endoscopic practices grew stronger.

From a nascent interest in medical literature, I transitioned from consuming scientific articles to crafting them. Collaborating with colleagues and assistant doctors, I co-authored numerous medical articles. This effort bore fruit when I successfully cleared the initial phase of my application for the position of associate professor in November 2017, based on my contributions to medical literature.

Ultimately, I earned the title of Associate Professor after successfully completing the associate professorship examination. My role as a clinical educator provided me with ample opportunities to perform specialized surgeries and actively contribute to the training of fellow physicians.

Due to personal reasons, I bid farewell to Antalya Training and Research Hospital in August 2021, where I had found professional satisfaction. Simultaneously, I embarked on a new chapter by joining Private Termessos Hospital.

While specializing mainly in obesity and metabolic surgery, I continued to engage in oncological procedures. I found immense professional joy in nurturing my interest in laparoscopic surgery within the realm of obesity and metabolic surgery.

Thanks to the unwavering support from the management of Private Termessos Hospital, we achieved remarkable strides in the domain of health tourism within a year. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the management and staff of Private Termessos Hospital for their collaboration in this endeavor.

Since September 2022, I have had the privilege of serving as a Member of the Board of Directors at Private Termessos Hospital, all while continuing my surgical practice at the same institution.

Transitioning to private practice did not sever my ties with Private Termessos Hospital, where I continue to conduct my surgeries to this day.
