PROF. DR. OMER OZKAN
Ömer Özkan is a prominent figure known for his remarkable achievements both nationally and internationally. Notably, he has achieved groundbreaking milestones, including the world's first uterus transplant and Turkey's first double arm transplant.
His educational journey commenced in Ankara, where he pursued his studies, culminating in his graduation from Ankara Cumhuriyet High School in 1988. Subsequently, Özkan embarked on his medical education at Hacettepe University. In 1995, he earned the prestigious title of medical doctor and proceeded to specialize in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine. Özkan's career took him to Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine in 2001, where he continued to excel in various aspects of microsurgery at some of the world's leading institutions. He pursued clinical fellowships in Perforator Flaps and Supermicrosurgery in Japan, Plastic Surgery, and Hand Surgery at Taiwan I/Shou University and E-Da Hospital. Additionally, he gained valuable experience in general microsurgery through a EURAPS Young Plastic Surgeons scholarship at Bogenhausen Technical University in Munich, Germany. Özkan was appointed as an assistant professor in 2004, and in 2006, he was honored with the title of associate professor. Throughout his career, Ömer Özkan has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Akdeniz University Encouragement Award in 2007, ATSO Scientist of the Year award in 2010, and the Ministry of Health Doctor of the Year Award in 2011.
His areas of active interest encompass a wide range of subjects, including facial and body aesthetics, breast reconstruction, tissue loss repair, restoration of facial muscles affected by facial nerve palsy, mandible reconstruction, and even vagina reconstruction.
