Professor Dr. Cüneyt Özek was born in İzmir. After completing his studies at Ankara Science High School in 1982, he obtained his medical degree from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Ankara in 1988. In 1992, he successfully cleared the ECFMG exam, a comprehensive assessment comprising clinical, preclinical, and English language components, necessary for practicing medicine in the USA. Following a three-year specialization in General Surgery at Istanbul Kartal Training and Research Hospital, he embarked on his specialization in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery at Ege University Faculty of Medicine (Izmir) in 1992. He concluded his training in 1997 and was granted the title of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist.
During his residency, he served as a research assistant in microsurgery at Stanford University (Palo Alto, California) and Davies Medical Center (San Francisco, California) from 1995 to 1996. In that same period, he had the privilege of working alongside prominent figures in the field, including Dr. Harry Bucke, Dr. William Lineaweaver, Dr. Feng Zhang in Microsurgery, and Dr. Donald Laub, Dr. George Commons, and Dr. Steven Hoefflin in Aesthetic Surgery. His expertise particularly grew in facial aesthetics, breast aesthetics, body contouring through liposuction, and transgender surgery. Throughout this period, he conducted six research projects (all of which were published in esteemed journals) and co-authored two book chapters with Dr. Donald Laub, one of the leading figures in transgender surgery worldwide.
Prof. Dr. Özek has contributed scholarly articles to numerous significant international plastic surgery journals. Since 2000, he has served on the editorial boards of Microsurgery and Annals of Plastic Surgery. Additionally, he holds positions on the editorial boards of "Turkiye Klinikleri" and "Ege University" journals.
In 2003, he successfully completed the "European Board of Plastic Surgery" examination, comprising written and oral components, held in the Netherlands. This prestigious certification is designed to establish a distinguished level of expertise in plastic surgery. He thus became the first Turkish plastic surgeon to pass this exam. He also holds certification from the Turkish Plastic Surgery Board.
Cuneyt Ozek was appointed as an associate professor in 2002 and achieved the rank of professor in 2009.
