Ataşehir Cerrahi

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ziya Balta was born in Trabzon in 1972. His educational journey began in a small village in the Yomra district of Trabzon and continued with his graduation from Ankara Gülhane Military Medical Academy in 1989. Throughout his career, he has exemplified dedication both as a surgeon and a patriotic soldier, representing his country with pride in various domestic and international roles.

After graduating in 1996, Dr. Balta embarked on a distinguished career path, starting as a Trainee Medical Lieutenant at GATA in Ankara. He then served as the Chief Physician at the 23rd J. Border Division Infirmary in Şırnak, followed by the role of Deputy Chief Physician at Şırnak Military Hospital. Dr. Balta's commitment to service led him to roles such as Doctor at the 3rd J. Private Training Battalion in Emirdağ, Afyon, and Chief Physician at the 3rd J. Private Training Brigade in Bilecik.

His pursuit of excellence continued with specialization at GATA Haydarpaşa Training Hospital in Istanbul from 2002 to 2006. Subsequently, he served as a General Surgery Specialist at Şırnak Military Hospital and later at GATA Haydarpaşa Training Hospital in Istanbul. In 2016, Dr. Balta assumed the role of Assoc. Prof. at SBÜ Hamidiye Faculty of Medicine in Istanbul, where he contributed to the Department of General Surgery at Sultan Abdülhamid Han SAUM General Surgery Service.

Dr. Balta's international experiences include serving as an Attending Surgeon at Ataturk Military Hospital under the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 2010-2011. He also completed an Observership in Colorectal Surgery at Columbia University's St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital in New York, USA, in May-August 2013, and a Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery at AZ Sint Jan Hospital in Brugge, Belgium, in July 2018.

Throughout his journey, Dr. Balta's priorities have remained steadfast: his patients as a surgeon, his homeland as a soldier, and his family as a husband and father. His dedication to being "a good person first" reflects in his exemplary career and his commitment to a better and healthier life for all.
