Sinus Surgery

Sinus surgery is a medical procedure that is used to treat chronic sinusitis, a condition that occurs when the nasal passages become inflamed and swollen, making it difficult to breathe. The procedure is designed to remove blockages from the sinuses, allowing the sinuses to drain more easily and reducing the risk of infection.

Sinus surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis, which means that the patient can go home the same day. There are two main types of sinus surgery: endoscopic sinus surgery and functional endoscopic sinus surgery. Endoscopic sinus surgery involves using an endoscope, a small camera that is inserted through the nose, to view the sinuses and remove any blockages. Functional endoscopic sinus surgery is a more extensive procedure that involves removing bone and tissue from the sinuses to improve drainage.

During sinus surgery, the patient is placed under general anesthesia, which means that they are completely asleep during the procedure. The surgeon then uses a small endoscope to view the sinuses and determine the location of any blockages. Once the blockages have been identified, the surgeon will use specialized tools to remove them. In some cases, the surgeon may also remove bone or tissue from the sinuses to improve drainage. After the surgery is complete, the patient will be monitored in the recovery room for a short period of time before being discharged home. Recovery from sinus surgery typically takes a few days, and most patients are able to resume their normal activities within a week or two.
