Dr. Plamen Staikov, MD, PhD, serves as the Medical Director at Sachsenhausen Hospital and holds the position of Chief of the Surgical Department. Additionally, he is the Director of the Bariatric Academy in Frankfurt am Main, overseeing its operations. Dr. Staikov also leads the IBC OXFORD mini-fellowship program in Germany. Furthermore, he holds the esteemed role of Chairman on the board of the MedicalNetwork Rhein-Main.

Dr. Staikov embarked on his medical journey after completing his studies at OVGU Otto-von-Guericke University in Magdeburg in 1994. He began specializing in surgery and reached the status of Senior Physician at the Clinic for General and Visceral Surgery at Ruppiner Kliniken GmbH, Neuruppin, in 2004. From 2005 to 2008, he served as the Deputy Chief Physician at the same clinic. Dr. Staikov then moved on to the Baermed.- Center for Abdominal Surgery at Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich, Switzerland, where he worked from 2008 to 2014. Notably, during this time, he established and led the Metabolic Center, focusing on the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity. Since 2014, he has held the dual roles of Medical Director and Chief Surgeon at Sachsenhausen Hospital in Frankfurt am Main.

• Prof. Dr. Plamen Staikov leads the IBC OXFORD training center in Germany, specializing in mini-fellowship programs. Through a partnership with the International Bariatric Club (IBC) Oxford, he oversees the training center for bariatric surgeons. The Bariatric Academy Frankfurt offers surgeons the opportunity to participate in multi-week training programs, during which they gain hands-on experience by observing and participating in 5-7 surgical operations daily.
• In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of laparoscopy and his significant impact on the education of aspiring and seasoned surgeons, Dr. med. Plamen Staikov has been bestowed with an honorary professorship at Kharkiv National Medical University. Through this collaboration, he imparts his extensive knowledge to numerous students and surgeons annually.
• In his capacity as the head of the Bariatric Academy Frankfurt am Main, Prof. Dr. med. Plamen Staikov orchestrates the International Bariatric Symposium every November.
