Assoc. Prof. Ayhan Mesci is a distinguished expert in laparoscopic surgery, with a career marked by groundbreaking achievements and a commitment to innovation. Graduating from Akdeniz University Hospital in 1999, he completed his specialty training in the General Surgery Clinic of the same university in June 2005. Rising through the ranks, he became Assistant Assoc. Prof. in 2008 and earned the title of Assoc. Professor in 2012 through his success in the exam held by the council of universities.
Driven by a passion for advancing minimally invasive surgery, Assoc. Prof. Mesci has sought out specialized training opportunities around the world. He received advanced laparoscopic surgery training at Singapore National University Hospital in 2005, followed by laparoscopic colonic surgery training in Strasbourg, France at Hopitaux Hospital in October 2006. In 2008, he pursued laparoscopic gastrectomy training in Hamburg, Germany, and furthered his expertise with laparoscopic gastric surgery training in Frankfurt, Germany in 2010.
One of his most notable achievements includes performing biliary, hernia, bony, suprarenal, and kidney transplant donor operations using the laparoscopic (SILS) method for the first time through a single incision (hole). This groundbreaking technique has played a significant role in advancing the field of laparoscopic surgery, making procedures more accessible and less invasive for patients.
Assoc. Prof. Mesci's primary interests lie in the laparoscopic surgical treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, morbid obesity, and metabolic diseases such as Type II Diabetes Mellitus. His dedication to advancing surgical techniques and providing innovative treatments has earned him a reputation as a leader in the field.
Currently serving as a lecturer in the General Surgery Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine at Akdeniz University, Assoc. Prof. Mesci continues to inspire and educate the next generation of surgeons while pushing the boundaries of laparoscopic surgery.
