Dr. Phil Lockie is an Australian and UK trained Upper GI and Laparoscopic surgeon. He is a Fellow of the Irish College of Surgeons and the Australian College of Surgeons. He has over 30 years of experience in the field of surgery, and specializes in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery of the abdomen and gastrointestinal tract.
Dr. Lockie offers a comprehensive range of weight loss procedures, all performed laparoscopically. He is a member of the European Hernia Society and has a particular interest in the laparoscopic repair of groin and abdominal hernias.
Dr. Lockie believes that it is essential for weight loss surgery to be combined with a comprehensive dietary and psychological program with ongoing support. He offers a free bariatric orientation consultation to provide information on the types of surgery available, program appointments, and answer any questions about the entire process.

Dr. Lockie's practice is located at 615 Stafford Road, Stafford QLD 4053. He also provides emergency cover to St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, Brisbane and St Andrew’s Private Hospital, Ipswich. In addition, he consults at a number of locations, including Ipswich, Brisbane CBD, and North West Private.
Dr. Lockie has conjoint qualifications in both upper and lower endoscopy and offers an open access endoscopy service in addition to specialist consultation for upper GI disorders.
Dr. Lockie has over 30 years of experience in the field of surgery. He was trained mainly in the UK before completing an Upper GI Fellowship at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and this was followed by a Laparoscopic Surgical Fellowship in Canberra.
During his training, he completed a research thesis resulting in a Master of Philosophy Degree and he won the UK Intensive Care Society’s Travelling Fellowship that allowed him to visit trauma centres in Denver, Memphis and Seattle.Dr. Lockie was awarded his Fellowship from the Irish College of Surgeons in 1985 and he won the Gold Medal at the Intercollegiate Examination in General Surgery in February 2003. He was the first surgeon from Belfast ever to win the Gold Medal. He was awarded his Fellowship from the Australian College of Surgeons in 2006.
Dr. Lockie was awarded his Fellowship from the Irish College of Surgeons in 1985 and he won the Gold Medal at the Intercollegiate Examination in General Surgery in February 2003.
