Head and Neck Cancer (Oncology)

Head and neck cancer refers to a group of cancers that arise in the tissues and organs located in the head and neck region, including the throat, mouth, nasal cavity, sinuses, and salivary glands. These cancers often develop in the squamous cells that line the moist, mucosal surfaces inside the head and neck, and they can cause symptoms such as persistent pain, difficulty swallowing, changes in voice or speech, and visible lumps or bumps. Risk factors for head and neck cancer include smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, poor nutrition, exposure to certain viruses, and a family history of the disease.

The treatment of head and neck cancer typically involves a combination of surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, depending on the location and stage of the cancer.
