LiposuctionLiposuction is a combination of the words "lipo" (fat) and "suction," and it refers to the process of melting the fat in the body and then removing it through cannulas. The main goal of liposuction is not to lose weight, but to eliminate regional fat deposits that cannot be lost even with weight loss, to correct and proportion the body shape. Even with weight loss, it is common to observe certain areas where fat is not lost.
The abdomen, the sides of the abdomen called "love handles," and the hips are the most common areas of regional fat accumulation. Despite diet and regular heavy exercise, fat in some areas does not melt. In this case, liposuction is performed to remove the fat, improve body contours, and help the affected person achieve a thinner and fitter appearance.
How is Liposuction Performed?
Firstly, 4mm incisions are made in the areas where fat will be removed. These incisions are planned to be as hidden as possible, such as inside underwear or within the belly button, to minimize the appearance of scars. A special serum is given to the treatment area to reduce bleeding and pain after the surgery. This serum also helps to dissolve fat tissue. The serum is allowed to take effect for an average of 15-20 minutes, after which the fat is removed from the body using liposuction cannulas attached to a vacuum effect-creating aspirator. These are the basic steps in the traditional liposuction technique, but surgical procedures may vary in technology-assisted liposuction techniques that use vibration, ultrasound, or laser energy.
Areas of Application for Liposuction
Liposuction can be applied to the abdomen, thighs, hips, neck, chin, jowls, arms, calves, legs, and back. The most preferred areas for women are the legs, abdomen, and breasts, while men tend to request liposuction for the abdominal sides and breast enlargement (gynecomastia) areas. Among the areas of application, liposuction of the arms, hips, abdomen, legs, face, jowls, and gynecomastia treatment can be mentioned.
Who is Suitable for Liposuction?
In liposuction, which is a surgical procedure, the opinion of the surgeon is the top priority. Before deciding to perform liposuction, the person's health history should be examined. All medications the patient is taking and any allergies should be checked, and a decision should be made based on the results whether the procedure can be performed or not. Hernia control should be ensured and the amount of fat in the abdomen should be calculated accurately for liposuction to be applied to the abdominal area. It is also important for the skin to have enough elasticity so that there is no sagging in that area after the fats are removed. When all the necessary checks are completed, liposuction can easily be applied to the following individuals:
-Those who are not pregnant or not likely to be pregnant, or have not recently given birth,
-Those who have not exceeded the upper age limit for liposuction,
-Those without hypertension or diabetes.
Recovery Process after Liposuction
After the procedure, a bandage is applied to the treated area. The bandage is usually kept on for about a week. Some swelling and bruising may occur, but they will quickly resolve on their own. The following are the things that should be taken care of after liposuction:
The bandage and special corset should be used for the duration recommended by the doctor to prevent skin fluctuations.
Avoid exercise and excessive physical activity for about a month after the liposuction procedure.
To help eliminate edema faster after the procedure, it is recommended that the person consume a diet that is low in salt, sugar, and fat and rich in protein, and drink plenty of water.
Ten days after the surgery, it is recommended to provide lymphatic drainage and apply soft massages that reduce edema.
Before and after liposuction reviews show that quick and effective results are achieved.
